Introducing Moxie & How She Will Help The World

Introducing Moxie & How She Will Help The World

Back in April I participated in a business course for soulful entrepreneurs. During the course, they asked me some very important questions that really got me thinking.

  • What do you want to put out to the universe?
  • What do you want to make happen?
  • What do you need to do to make it happen?

I methodically listed my business goals and then quickly snuck in a last minute wish.

“I also want a puppy”.

My husband and I dreamt about having a puppy before we were even married. However, the timing never felt right and we are such planners, so even just saying my “wish” felt spontaneous and surprised even me.

Later that day, one of my friends who was also doing the course, Mickey Eves, tagged me in a facebook post about a dog looking for a new family. I was touched that she had thought of me, but shared with her that when it is time, I’d be looking for a hypoallergenic golden doodle puppy that I could train as a therapy dog. She quickly and enthusiastically messaged back and said, “I have a friend who both breeds and trains puppies for this purpose”.

WOW!!!  This was super exciting because while researching breeders, I found the waitlist for golden doodles was 2-3 years (if they still had a wait list going). Many breeders had closed their lists because the demands far outweighed their puppy’s breeding abilities.

We decided to explore our “wish” because all of a sudden the timing felt very right.

Mickey put me in touch with her breeder friend and I instantly loved her approach. She really did put the puppies first and wanted to make sure each family was connected with the puppy who’s personality best aligned with the family.

During one of our many wonderful and informative conversations, the breeder shared with me that she’s helped train therapy dogs who work with children with special needs, The Children’s Aid Society, The Red Cross, and pups who participate in the library reading program. My insides got so warm and fuzzy because when my kids were little, we went to the library every Sunday afternoon to read with a therapy dog. How amazing would it be, that I will one day be able to offer that same opportunity to someone else’s child?

A little part of me imagines a world where she is able to go into schools and help kids with anxiety. There is a need for this now, more than ever.

I have seen first hand the connection that a human can have with a dog.

In 2000, my in-laws got a dog named Y2K, pronounced “Ee- took”. This mini poodle was with my mother-in-law through her 7 year battle with cancer. When she finally went into hospice, my father in-law would take Y2K to go visit her everyday at lunch. Together, they would step onto the elevator and go up to the 6th floor. As soon as the doors opened, Y2K knew exactly where she was, even when she wasn’t in her room.

The day that she passed, the nurses already knew that my father-in-law was on his way, so they decided not to call him, but rather share this sensitive information with him face-to-face. Like every other day, Y2K and my father-in-law stepped onto the elevator, went to the 6th floor, but when the doors opened their precious poodle didn’t move.  It was like he knew that her soul was no longer there.

I pray that our dog will touch the lives of those around her, because I know just how healing that can be.

So…drumroll please. Let me introduce you to Moxie!

Moxie means tenacity, perseverance, grit and courage. I so hope that she reminds you that you also have Moxie!

She’s looking forward to meeting you, when my doors open again soon!
