A Halloween At Home Your Kids Will Never Forget

A Halloween At Home Your Kids Will Never Forget

It’s no secret that Halloween this year will be different than the past, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be the best one yet either!  Halloween is my kids absolute favourite occasion and it comes with extra excitement and positivity this year.  My kids have been planning their costumes for months and I love how it allows for a creative outlet and something they can look forward to.  I have been brainstorming Halloween foods and activities and let me tell you, I think I may be just as excited as them for once!

Food & Drink:  This year, I plan to go all out in this department!  Here are some of my food/drink ideas for the day:

Worms and Eyeballs:  Spaghetti and Meatballs

Green Slime Smoothies:  A veggie smoothie even your kids will enjoy!

Eyeballs:  Lychee with blueberries in the centre

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds: Use a touch of olive oil, cumin, sea salt & chilli flakes.

Pumpkin Loaf or Muffins: With no added sugar, but lots of warming squash, apples and pumpkin spices!

Warming Pumpkin Spice Smoothie:  Try this warm smoothie instead of the traditional cold one!

Halloween Popcorn Treats:  Sweet and salty popcorn clusters.

Spooky Witch Fingers:  Fire up the cauldron and make a batch of these bewitching no-bake treats.

Jalapeno Ghouls: Look out!  These spicy jalapeño poppers will give you a thrill with their sneaky heat!

Spooky Apple Cider: Shrunken apple heads swim around in this spooky apple cider spiced with cinnamon sticks and cloves.

Haunting Potion:  An easy recipe for a delicious fresh-pressed juice that’s perfect for the autumn time.

Mac-O-Lantern and Cheese Bowls:  Carve jack-o-lanter faces into orange bell peppers and fill them with creamy Mac and cheese.

Games/Activites:

With Halloween landing on a Saturday this year, there will be oodles of time to spend doing creative and fun games/activities.  We are excited to do these as a family and it should make for a really entertaining day!  Get your camera’s ready!

Pumpkin Carving/Decorating

Crafts (the dollar store has lots of these!)

Dress-up Games:  This is an interactive website game that allows your kids to dress up characters.  It’s so fun!

Bobbing for Apples (in their own bowls)

Trick-or-Treating:  Using your backyard and each household room, have your kids dress up in their costumes and go trick-or-treating.  You can even use stuffed animals or toys who will “hand out” the candy!

Halloween Scavenger Hunt:  Here is a fun, printable scavenger hunt for you to use!

Toilet Paper Mummy Games:  A hilariously funny, silly, game!  Check out this video!

Spooky Bath:  My kids absolutely love this one.  I purchase some glow sticks from the dollar store and place them in their bath on Halloween night.  Turn the lights out and the bath will light up with spooky colours.

Just Dance: (if you don’t have a Nintendo Wee, you can YouTube these):
      Thriller
      Ghost Busters
      Time Warp
      Maneater
      Calling All The Monsters
      Monster Mash
      Gummy Bear (for the littles)

Monsters of Jazz (for the littles)

Movies:  We will likely have a few movie nights during the month of October.
To name a few of our favourites:
Casper
Ghost Busters
The Adams Family
Hotel Transylvania
Goosebumps

Wagon Rides:  This has become a yearly tradition for our family.  We spend a few hours at a local farm picking out our pumpkins, going for a wagon ride and enjoying the outdoors.  With Halloween on a Saturday, you can tie this activity into your day.  I would recommend you call ahead as COVID-19 capacities are in effect.

Here are some local farms that offer this experience:
